Today's Scripture:
Isaiah 42:1-4
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.
He will not shout or cry out,
or raise his voice in the streets.
A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
he will not falter or be discouraged
till he establishes justice on earth.
In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”
Read: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
Isaiah 42:1-4 describes a Servant of the Lord who is compassionate, gentle and who will bring justice to this “spiritually deprived” world. This Servant, chosen by God, changed the world’s cultural perception and history by fulfilling the prophecies of the Old Testament. His Servant, Jesus, could have taken any title as a king or conqueror when he came into this world, but He chose to come as a servant of man. He was a light to the nations and a beacon of hope to humanity.
Reflect: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
Many times, I find myself wanting to “fly upside down”, conforming to the values of this world and not stepping back to assess where God is wanting to guide me. My discipleship group has been a blessing to me as we discuss current events, our individual situations and the influence of God on our Christian walk.
Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
Jesus modeled hope to all the people of this world through His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, friendliness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Indeed, Jesus shows us how to “fly right-side up”!
