Today's Scripture:
Matthew 6:25-34
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Read: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
During this season, the Scripture is telling me to let go of all of my worries because God’s got me. He says to stop worrying because He is all perfect and knows what He’s doing. All of my worries are extremely minor compared to the big plans God has for me and everyone else. This scripture repeats the word “worry” a lot, and that word pretty much sums up who we are as human beings. We don’t know what God has for the future, but as long as we have faith and trust, all of our worries will go away. In conclusion, during this season, we should worry less and have more faith.
Reflect: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
I don’t have a specific story that pertains to this scripture, but there are little pieces in my life that do. What I saw a lot of in the scripture was Jesus telling me not to worry or be insecure. Just like in life, I am not perfect, so I do tend to worry a lot, and I get insecure. God says in the scripture that I should not worry because He will never forget me; He will always be there. He also talks about how He made us perfectly, and I shouldn’t try to change myself to please the world. This pertains to my life because I worry that sometimes God isn’t with me or He forgot about me and doesn’t answer my prayer when I want and how I want. But God says to trust and have faith because His way is perfect, and it always is in the end. To sum it all up, I’m not perfect but that doesn’t mean God doesn’t love me. He made me beautifully, and he will never ever forget about me.
Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
This scripture is calling me to worry less and know that I am perfect in the image of God. After reading the scripture, I realized there is no one perfect besides God. This means that no body is better than anyone else, so why should we have these worries and insecurities? God made us all different for a reason so embrace it. In short, what I encourage myself and others to do is to stop worrying about what the future will look like and to start trusting more in God.
