Lenten Devotional 2024

Today's Scripture:

John 3:16-21 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Read: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
This passage tells us that God loves His creation so much that He brought His son, Jesus Christ, to save His children. The Bible also says that only those, who believe in Jesus and choose to live in His righteous path each and every day despite our broken world, will live an eternal life.

Reflect: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
Before coming to Grace and before accepting Jesus Christ into my life, I lived blindly in my sin. But once I began attending church and really having a relationship with God, and accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I can recognize my shortcomings before God and try to lead my life in the way that Jesus has shown us. Sure, I was living, but I was living in darkness. Now I live knowing that there is a light leading me to life.

Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
This scripture reminds me to lead our lives in servanthood for others just as Christ did. In this moment, God has called me to serve at Grace as a Deacon. This calling to love and serve my church comes from the endless love that God gifts me each and every day.
