Lenten Devotional 2024

Today's Scripture:

Luke 22:24-34 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

Read: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
This scripture is teaching us to be servants, even when you find yourself in any kind of position of authority. And to always remember, that even the Father sent His one and only son to die for us, in the most humble way, to leave us with one of the most important commandants as disciples which is to love each other like He had loved us. (John 13:34)

Reflect: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
Since I was little, my parents taught me to treat people with respect and love, as equals, no matter your social status or from where you are from and to try always to help others as if they are my own family. Since I met Jesus, these teachings have been more present in my life and in my daily life as He is the perfect example of humility, grace and self control.

Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
This Word is telling me that the only one who has all the authority is God and only He knows what is yet to come, that He loves me as I am, He has called me to serve Him and spread His word, and He already has a place for me in heaven where we will seat one day next to each other. It also reminds me to always humble myself, love others and serve them with excellence, and to not let my faith be shaken as He sustains me in every season.
