Today's Scripture:

Mark 1:9-15 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Read: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
This scripture has a lot going on. There are three important stories in just a few verses. Jesus is baptized, tempted, and then begins his ministry.

Reflect: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
This scripture reminds me that Jesus is human just like me. He was tempted in the same way I am and the Spirit was with him the entire time. God will never leave me even when times are hard and I’m tempted to walk away. This also shows me the divine power of Jesus. He came to the world proclaiming the good news we are all so desperate for. I’m saved through my belief in who He is.

Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
For me, verses 14-15 are a reminder of the Great Commission. We’re called to go make disciples, to baptize them, and to teach them to obey Jesus. I’m challenged to answer this call. I want to proclaim the good news to those around me. I want to take Jesus’ words with me wherever I go. I’m being called to share his love with my friends, family, and coworkers. In my own life I do it through intentional relationships. I make the time to get to know people and meet them where they are.
